RAM sales have continued their strong run.

The top results last week stretched from Jeparit in far western Victoria, where Detpa Grove sold a White Suffolk to $23,000, to Mundulla in South Australia, where Coolawang Border Leicesters broke the Australian record for the breed, selling a ram at $27,000.

Average prices were up, from Merino and prime lamb sires across the board again, and one of the nation’s biggest ram sales, conducted by Chrome Sheep Studs at Hamilton, was also successful.

Chrome sold all 529 rams offered for an average of $2137, up on last year’s result of $1430.

Near Horsham, buyers favoured the Poll Merinos at Glenpaen’s 24th annual sale at Brimpaen last week.

All 30 poll rams offered sold, and in total, 95 Glenpaen lots were cleared from 112 offered. The average price paid was $3000, up by $600 on last year’s result.

Stud principal Rod Miller said the top ram was sold to repeat buyer Rod Marshall from Pomonal. The ram’s fleece measured 18.4 micron and he weighed 95kg.

“We didn’t really expect prices to be up that much. We budgeted on things being down a bit given wool prices,” Mr Miller said.
