WORK on building a roof over the Horsham saleyards will begin this year, following an investment by the Federal Government announced last week.

Horsham Stock Agents Association president Dale Dridan said the roof would be advantageous for both sheep and humans, and would also deliver environmental benefits.

The project also includes the installation of LED lighting and solar panels, and will enable rainwater to be captured and stored.

“A roof has been on the cards for a long time now, and it’s great to see the Government and local council throw their support behind the saleyards’ future,” Mr Dridan said.

“Growers will be extremely excited.”

The $1.49 million in Government funding will be more than matched with $1.54 million from the Horsham Rural City Council. The project will roof all 23,400sq m of the saleyards.
