VICTORIAN studs have displayed their dominance in the White Suffolk judging, taking home the major awards.
Antwerp stud Mertex’s grand champion ram was sashed supreme by judge Anthony Hurst of Seriston stud, Lucindale, South Australia.
The April-drop sire weighed 136kg with Australian sheep breeding values of 13.4kg for post weaning weight, and 1.8mm for post weaning muscle depth.
The Mertex ram bet out grand champion White Suffolk ewe, exhibited by Booloola stud at Baringhup.
Mr Hurst commended both the ram and ewe’s toplines and “tremendous spring of rib”, but said it was the ram’s muscle definition over the hindquarter that placed him in the top position.
