BUYERS spent more than $40,000 a minute at a cattle sale near Gundagai this morning.

And prices are expected to match this when more cattle are offered this afternoon.

This morning’s on-property sale at Abingdon Station east of Gundagai saw 1191 Angus steer and heifer weaners average $1047 and gross $1.246 million in a sale that took less than 30 minutes.

Elders Goulburn auctioneer Steve Ridley said it was a sale that “must have broken records”.

“To see heavier steers making more than 400c/kg for lines of 100 or more is terrific,” he said.

“We knew it would be strong but I’ve never sold weaner cattle for prices like this.”

The top pen of 105 steers, about 330kg, made $1365 or 414c/kg.

About 2300 cattle will be offered at Gundagai’s saleyards this afternoon.
