Holstein sire hits top spot on Australian proven breeding list

HOLSTEIN sire MVP has reached the top of the Australian proven breeding value list.

The bull, Seagull-Bay MVP-ET, has added hundreds of daughters and remained stable with a balanced performance index of 337.

DataGene released its December Australian Breeding Values this week, which also showed Maebull has retained his position at number two on the Australian proven list with a BPI of 317.

Coastal-View Mookie has held the position of top Holstein on the proven bulls list (Australia and international) with a BPI of 372.

DataGene genetic evaluation manager Michelle Axford said there were now 36 proven bulls with a BPI of at least 300.

On the young genomic list, Jeronimo has held his position as the first young genomic bull with a BPI over 400. There are now 158 young genomic bulls with a BPI of at least 300.

Ms Axford said 131 of these bulls carry at least one copy of the A2 gene and 70 bulls carry both copies of the A2 gene.

Sunset Canyon David sits at the top of the Jersey proven list with a BPI of 359 and VFoske has moved to number one on the red breed table with a BPI of 278.
