A QUEENSLAND newcomer and two incumbents have been given pole position for the three vacancies on the board of Dairy Australia.

The national dairy organisation has confirmed the names of the three hand-picked nominees — Tanya Luckin, Roseanne Healy and Paul Roderick — ahead of its annual general meeting, scheduled for November.

The three vacant roles include one agribusiness and two milk producer positions.

Mr Roderick is standing for election for the first time and has been nominated for one of the milk producer director vacancies.

He has operated a family dairy farm at Harrisville in south-east Queensland for the last 27 years and also serves as chairman of Subtropical Dairy.

Incumbent board member Ms Luckin has been renominated to fill the second milk producer vacancy.

She is runs a family dairy farm near Heywood, in south-west Victoria and has previously served as a Bonlac Supply Company director.

Ms Healy has also been renominated to fill the agribusiness vacancy after two years on the board.

She is currently deputy chairwoman of Grains Research and Development Corporation and is a former director of AgriFutures Australia.

Graeme Nicoll is not restanding for election and will retire from the board.

Dairy Australia’s board selection committee chairman Paul Wood said 88 applications had been received for board roles.

He said levy-paying farmers needed to register as members of Dairy Australia in order to participate in director elections.

“We encourage all levy payers to register as members of Dairy Australia in order to vote,” Professor Wood said,

“It’s an easy process and information is available via our website.”

To be successfully elected into the vacant director roles, each nominee will require more than 50 per cent of the votes cast at the annual general meeting.

Candidates who wish to nominate separately to the board selection committee process can submit their nomination in writing, supported by signatures from at least 100 Group A members.

Nominations must be received by Dairy Australia by the close of business on August 31.

The announcement coincides with the appointment of James Mann as DA chairman last week, replacing Jeff Odgers.

Mr Mann had been serving as acting chairman for the past five months after Mr Odgers took a leave of absence due to the death of his son in March.

The South Australian dairy farmer was appointed to the Dairy Australia board in November 2015, having previously served as the chairman of the DairySA Regional Development Program from 2002 to 2015.

“Jeff has made a significant contribution as chairman of Dairy Australia and, on behalf of all dairy farmers and the wider industry, I’d like to thank him for his extraordinary commitment of time and energy,” Mr Mann said.

Mr Odgers will remain as a board director and continue to take part in the Organisational Reform Steering Committee, which was established as part of the Australian Dairy Plan.
