Jensz daughters helping out on first harvest at Balliang
The eldest Jensz daughters are using their school holidays to learn the ropes of harvest from their dad at their Balliang property.
IT SEEMS farming is in the genes for the Jensz family of Balliang.
Grain grower Tim had his two eldest daughters helping out with their first harvest this year, and said they had done a great job.
“I’m really proud of them and how well they’ve adapted to it and how good they are at it,” he said.
Charlotte, 16, and Matilda, 14, took to driving the harvesters like naturals, meaning their dad and uncle could do other bits and pieces around the farm and didn’t have to hire a contractor.
Tim farms with his wife Donna, brother Ben and his wife Tiffany.
The family also had some help this year from the girl’s cousin Patrick Bennett, 16, who also wanted to spend his holidays learning the ropes.
Mr Jensz said it was nice to be sharing the harvest with his daughters, with the younger two, Anabel, 10, and Phoebe, 8 wanting to help out too as soon as they’re old enough.
“It’s probably been the most enjoyable year I’ve had working with them,” he said.
“They showed some interest last year and then this year they were keen to learn so that’s how it came about.”
Mr Jensz said they weren’t quite finished with harvesting their almost 2000ha of canola, barley, wheat and field peas but were having a break due to the weather.
“We’ve got about two more weeks with good weather, but then that might take a month,” he said.
”It’s been a pretty good season this year across the board.”
