NSW Angus breeder Corey Ireland is suing the receivers of his wife’s family trust company for more pay while he carries out farm work for them.

A source told The Weekly Times Mr Ireland had taken Supreme Court of NSW action to force receivers of IFFT Pty Ltd — Morgan Kelly and Will Colwell — to pay him more money for looking after the cattle on the Ireland family’s Ivydell property at Kyeamba near Wagga Wagga.

Mr Kelly and Mr Colwell, of KPMG Australia, were appointed as receivers by the court last December following petitioning by Westpac Banking Corporation, which was owed about $3.5 million by the Ireland family trust in loans to buy 1654 stud and commercial cattle, along with some property.

The Ireland’s Ivydell property is only believed to be holding about 550 cattle. There is a dispute over ownership of the animals involving a number of claimants.

Mr Kelly and Mr Colwell employed Mr Ireland to carry out farm work at Ivydell while the receivership was in place.

The source said an “amended remuneration package” was likely to be put to Mr Ireland.

In separate proceedings, Mr Ireland will now face a committal hearing in the Wagga Wagga Local Court on October 14 on eight counts of fraud.

NSW Police alleged when he was charged in April that he entered into joint business ventures with farmers and on-sold cattle that either did not exist, were deceased or had been on-sold without investors’ knowledge.

In the Wagga Wagga Local Court last Wednesday, Magistrate Chris Halburd extended bail undertakings made on April 8 when Mr Ireland first faced the court.

Mr Ireland is a party in other civil cases relating to the Angus stud he ran with his wife, Prue.

In one, Mr Ireland is being sued in the Federal Circuit Court by Rabobank subsidiary De Lage Landen for $274,000.

That case is continuing in the Federal Circuit Court.

Mr Ireland did not respond to questions from The Weekly Times.
