Western Sydney is set for a manufacturing boost with more than 60 skilled jobs being created as airconditioning giant Daikin Australia opened its advanced factory on Wednesday.

The $28.6 million Chipping Norton facility signals a major vote of confidence in Australia’s manufacturing future at a time when governments are pushing to rebuild local industry and secure domestic supply chains.

Daikin Australia is the local arm of Daikin Industries, a world-leading manufacturer of airconditioning and climate control solutions, with a global reputation for innovation and energy-efficient technology.

At the opening of the Investment NSW backed project, Minister for Industry and Trade Anoulack Chanthivong said it would be a boost for the economy.

“This investment brings jobs, boosts advanced manufacturing and strengthens Western Sydney as a national centre for innovation. It shows how international partnerships and local skills deliver real benefits for our economy,” he said.

Managing Director of Daikin Australia, Hideaki Furihata, said the facility brought together engineering expertise and local know-how.

“It will help us produce HVAC solutions that perform efficiently and reliably in Australia’s diverse conditions, while accelerating product development and refining manufacturing processes.”

Manufacturing General Manager of Daikin Australia, Nicholas MacDonald, added said the factory would create local opportunities.

“We have new automated production lines and upgraded testing labs that increase output and efficiency. This expansion strengthens domestic production and creates local opportunities in engineering, logistics and quality assurance,” he said.

The factory sits alongside Daikin’s first Australian office and features energy-efficient systems and waste-reduction practices. The project is part of the company’s global sustainability strategy and supports the NSW Government’s aim to build resilient local supply chains and grow advanced manufacturing in Western Sydney.

As production ramps up, more jobs are expected, with the facility set to expand Australian-made heating and airconditioning products for homes and businesses across the country.
