Agriculture industry group formed by Victorian Government amid coronavirus crisis
The Victorian Government has set up an agriculture industry group to increase communication and address issues affecting producers amid the coronavirus crisis. See who is involved.
AN AGRICULTURE industry group has been set up by the Victorian Government to work through issues facing the industry during the coronavirus pandemic and ensure the supply chain can continue.
The Victorian Agriculture Industry Reference Group, announced today, includes representatives from 25 industry groups, aiming to increase two-way communication between farmers and the Government about health and business.
The Government said the new group would ensure farmers had up-to-date information about commuting and accommodating seasonal workers, managing staff safety and the health of their workforce and directives for people with responsibilities for animals.
Victorian Agriculture Minister Jaclyn Symes said farmers had also provided the Government with “invaluable insight”.
“Through the feedback they’ve brought to the group, our agricultural businesses have shown yet again how resilient they can be in the face of hardship, and some invaluable insight into the reality of the pandemic on regional Victoria,” she said.
Dairy Australia managing director David Nation said: “This work has brought together all of the Victorian agricultural industries to ensure each industry is connected to the latest developments, can share common issues and provide a direct line of feedback to government.”
