THERE’S big. And then there’s Rugby Farm.

The Queensland farming operation is a horticulture Hercules, planting the equivalent of three average-sized vegetables farms each week, and producing 20 million packs of vegies a year.

The Hood Family has been in the farming business for 107 years, with Rugby Farm now spread across four growing regions, carting produce to market daily in its fleet of 25 semi-trailers.

Yet, as Matt and Dan Hood (pictured) tell AgJournal, their simple philosophy is to grow the best vegetables possible.

It is the same philosophy driving Rob McGavin, executive chairman of Boundary Bend Limited.

The owner of the famous Cobram Estate olive oil brand, McGavin reveals his remarkable rise from humble outback beginnings to driving a $135 million-a-year business.

You can read about McGavin and Rugby Farms in AgJournal, Australia’s agribusiness magazine at agjournal.com.au, in the digital edition or free in The Weekly Times this week.
