‘One of the worst things I’ve seen’: Boxing shocked by referee attack after fight
A boxing referee has been punched out of the ring after a fight had finished in shameful scenes that left the sport horrified.
A boxing referee was viciously attacked by several men in ring after a fight in the Dominican Republic.
The Shuan Boxing event was staged in Santo Domingo and headlined by bantamweight pair Norbelto Jimenez and Marcelino Nieves.

After one fight, the referee was shockingly punched in the face and sent flying across the ring.
A huge brawl then broke out in the ring with the official trapped in the corner.
The beating was so severe that the ref was actually punched out of the ropes – toppling onto the floor.

Footage of the shameful incident circulated online – causing uproar among the boxing community.
Women’s world champion Claressa Shields posted: “This is FK’N RIDICULOUS!!!!! This is sad.”
Another fan said: “This might be the craziest thing I’ve seen in a boxing ring.”
One added: “Nah this is crazy.”
Another fumed: “This is one of the worst things I’ve seen at a boxing event.”
Astonishingly, it is not the first time a ref has been involved in a brawl after a fight in the Dominican.
Last June, Julio de Jesus Rodriguez was pulled out of his fight against Cruz Johnson before swinging a punch at the official.
Then to the shock of everybody, the ref retaliated back with punches before fleeing the ring.
