Mary Fowler and Nathan Cleary conspiracy theory floated on social media

A wild conspiracy theory surrounding Australian sporting power couple Mary Fowler and Nathan Cleary has taken over the internet.

Just when you think social media can’t possibly sink any deeper, out comes another wild conspiracy theory.

This time it centres around Australia’s favourite couple, Mary Fowler and Nathan Cleary.

The Matildas superstar and arguably the NRL’s best player have continually attracted the spotlight after their relationship became official in November last year.

But due to Fowler plying her trade in the UK with Manchester City, the duo have endured more than their fair share of time apart.

Thankfully those worries were pushed to the side when Fowler returned to Australia and the couple continually sent social media into a spin as they shared photos of one another.

Around the same time as Fowler was set to return home, Cleary unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury during Penrith’s round 10 clash against Canterbury.

This is where the conspiracy theory comes into play.

An account on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, named BorderAthleticsSC shared the wild theory behind Cleary’s injury.

“I had a relative on a plane with a certain NRL HB (halfback) and girlfriend. Injury not anything like reported. It’s more like a sabbatical,” the tweet read.

“Girlfriend happens to be in a very small holiday window and the NRL HB would have missed most of this period with Rep games anyway.”

No you’re not reading this wrong, the conspiracy theory shared online is insinuating that Cleary’s hamstring injury is nowhere near as severe as made out to be by the Panthers and instead he took time off in the middle of the NRL season to be with his partner.

A season mind you where the Panthers are aiming to win their fourth straight NRL Grand Final.

Not done there however, the account doubled down on the conspiracy theory in a follow up post in mid-July that the believe only fuels the theory.

“The Matilda’s and Mary Fowler are now in Spain ready for an Olympic warm up game against Canada,” the tweet read.

“In other News Nathan Cleary will get selected for Panthers Rd 20 straight after Origin 3.”

Some are convinced the theory is true.

While the original theory is as out there as can be, Cleary is in fact set to return to the Panthers line-up when they go up against the Dolphins at 2pm (AEST) on Sunday after overcoming his hamstring injury, conveniently also in the first game back for the Panthers following the conclusion of the Origin series.

Fowler and the rest of the Matildas squad are now back overseas as they ramp up their preparations for the Paris Olympics.

The Matildas will play their opening game at the 2024 Games against Germany before taking on Zambia and rounding out their group games with a match against the USA.

With long-term back on the agenda for Fowler and Cleary, we’ll now wait and see what conspiracy theory the internet can dig up surrounding the power couple next.
