Lachlan Galvin takes swipe at Jarome Luai in first Bulldogs interview

Bulldogs’ newest recruit Lachlan Galvin has taken a swipe at his former club in his first interview as a Canterbury player.

Galvin takes thinly veiled swipe at former club

Lachlan Galvin has taken a swipe at former teammate Jarome Luai, stating a large part of why he joined the Bulldogs is because they have “each other’s backs”.

Galvin, 19, decided in April to reject a five-year deal worth up to $6 million at the Tigers, with his manager Isaac Moses citing concerns over coach Benji Marshall’s ability to turn him into a star of the game.

In the aftermath, Luai threw his support behind Marshall, took a dig at Galvin and reportedly urged the rookie coach to drop the teenager from the team.

Marshall decided to axe Galvin for the following week’s game as Luai took to social media making a “team first” post that appeared targeted at Galvin’s decision to seek pastures new.

And while Galvin was recalled just a week later, the teenager reportedly was left feeling ostracised by Luai and the senior playing group.

As a result his management accused the club of bullying and sought an immediate release.

In the end the Tigers granted his wish, with Galvin agreeing a three-and-a-half-year deal worth around $750,000 a season with the Bulldogs.

And in his first interview as a Canterbury player, Galvin spoke about his excitement in joining the ladder leaders before taking the chance to stick the boot into Luai and the Tigers.

When asked what he admires about the club, the young playmaker said he loved that at the Bulldogs they have “each other’s backs”, in what appeared to be a swipe at his former team and halves partner.

Galvin makes it official

“They are always here for each other, all the boys have each other’s backs,” Galvin said.

“I just want to keep working hard, getting in here and learning all their systems.”

Galvin also said Ciraldo’s tough training methods and standards convinced him to snub the Eels in favour of the Bulldogs.

“I just think he is a real leader,” Galvin said about Ciraldo.

“I think he is driving standards here that are pretty cool and something that I obviously want to be a part of.

“So getting to know him more and more as the season goes on and the next three years that I’m here is going to be pretty cool.

“I can’t wait to be having conversations in his office, hopefully good ones. I can’t wait.”

Galvin is expected to make his Canterbury debut against the team he snubbed, the Eels, in Monday’s King’s Birthday clash.
