Hawthorn celebrated Jack Gunston’s 250th AFL game in style as they ran riot at the MCG by recording a 27-point win over Adelaide.

The Hawks soared out of the gates as they kicked five of the opening six goals and never looked back as they secured the 16.11 (107) to 12.8 (80) victory.

Dylan Moore led the charge in front of goal with five, but it was Gunston who stole the limelight as he kicked three, including one in the dying stages.

After slotting his set shot straight through the big sticks, the veteran forward was mobbed by every Hawks player.

The win however was soured for the Hawks with Changkuoth Jiath being reported over an inexcusable act in the second quarter.

Jiath and Crows player Mitch Hinge engaged in a brief tussle when the Hawks player took issue with Hinge putting his left hand on his throat.

Jiath retaliated by headbutting his opponent, the act was sighted by the on field umpire who instantly blew his whistle and put him on report.

Fox Footy reporter David Zita shared the likely Match Review ramifications for the 48-gamer, who was reported on the spot for his indiscretion.

“That will come across the MRO’s desk,” Zita began during Fox Footy’s halftime coverage.

“Intentional conduct is how headbutts are usually graded. So, it only has to be low impact, obviously high contact being a headbutt to the head, and it would be a one-week suspension.

“He’s just got back in the team from a long injury lay-off, and he might be heading back out again for at least a week.”

The win becomes Hawthorn’s fourth in their past five games with the loss a heartbreaking one-point defeat against Port Adelaide.

The display against the Crows drew widespread praise from three-time Richmond premiership player Jack Riewoldt

“I think, all over the ground at the moment, Hawthorn’s system and the way they’re moving the ball actually looks like a really good football team,” Riewoldt said on Fox Footy.

“They’re just taking their opportunities. If they are seeing one-on-ones, Hawthorn, their ability just to get it and get it to the guys who are quick and can use the ball and then use it well inside 50.

“From that point of view, the way they are moving the ball (has been impressive). We know it’s been a huge shift for them over the last month … they are just getting it inside 50 and when they get it there, they’re marking it as well.”

The win lifts the Hawks to 12th on the ladder on 20 points, currently eight points behind eighth placed Collingwood.
