Paris Attacks Day 2: Search for answers after day of terror in French capital

We're winding up our coverage of the fall out from the Paris attacks for the night.

Here's what we know so far:

• At least 129 people killed in attacks at six locations across Paris.
• 352 people were injured, 99 of those critically, meaning the death toll could still rise.
• Islamic State has claimed responsibility
• French President Francois Hollande calls the attacks an "act of war".
• One attacker has been identified as 29-year-old French man Ismail Omar Mostefai. He had been arrested eight times. Security services believed Mostefai at high-risk of radicalisation since 2010.
• A manhunt is underway for accomplices, with several arrests in Belgium linked to the attacks. It is unclear if the individuals arrested were gunmen.
• Kalashnikovs and fingerprints have reportedly been found in a suspected getaway car that was found abandoned in east Paris.

Footage has emerged that purportedly shows the horrifying moment when gunshots ring through the Bataclan concert hall.

The video appears to show the Eagles of Death Metal playing their set on stage before the loud cracks of gun shots startle the band.

The band abandon their instruments as the sound of the guitar whines on its last note before dying out.

The footage was posted to Instagram by Sebastien Snow (@seb_snow), who says he captured the moment on his phone as he stood in the crowd.

"The last notes before the gunfire, panic and horror..." reads an English translation of the French-language caption Sebastien Snow posted with the video.

Just hours earlier, @seb_snow posted a photo of the Eagles of Death Metal sign above the entrance to the Bataclan concert hall.

"Let the show begins... [sic]" he wrote.

French media is reporting three kalashnikovs were found in a black Seat, the suspected getaway car involved in Friday night's attacks.

The car, found by French authorities abandoned in Montreuil, is believed to have been used during the shootings in bars and restaurants in the tenth and eleventh districts of Paris.

Authorities have indicated that the assailants used kalashnikovs in several of the attacks that killed a total of 129 people and injured 352.

The holder of the Syrian passport found at the scene of the Paris attack crossed into Serbia on October 7 seeking asylum, the Serbian Interior Ministry told Reuters.

The passport's authenicity has not been confirmed, and it is not clear whether the holder of the passport was involved in the attacks.

"One of the suspected terrorists, A.A., who is of interest to the French security agencies, was registered on the Presevo border crossing on October 7 this year, where he formally sought asylum," the ministry said in a statement.

The Presevo border crossing separates Serbia from Macedonia.

"Checks have confirmed that his details match those of the person who on October 3 was identified in Greece. There was no Interpol warrant issued against this person."

Greek authorities had said on Saturday the passport matched that used by a refugee who arrived on the Greek island of Leros on Oct. 3.

The holder of the Syrian passport found at the scene of the Paris attack crossed into Serbia on October 7 seeking asylum, the Serbian Interior Ministry told Reuters.

The passport's authenicity has not been confirmed, and it is not clear whether the holder of the passport was involved in the attacks.

Weapons and fingerprints have been found in a black Seat suspected of being involved in the Paris shootings, French television channel BFMTV has reported.

The car, believed to have been used by the attackers who targeted a number of restaurants and bars on Friday night, was found in Montreuil, eastern Paris, according to radio station Europe 1.

It is not clear what type of weapons were discovered.

"When we talk about war ... it's not a war against the Muslims or Islam or any religion," the French ambassador in Australia Christophe Lecourtier told reporters outside At Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney on Sunday afternoon AEST.

France and Australia are fighting a war to protect the shared values forged in the muddy trenches of the Great War, the French ambassador said.

"Australia is one of these countries that share the same values as France because we forged them together in the muddy trenches of northern France.

"We know what we fight," Mr Lecourtier said. "After a period of mourning, France shall never surrender," he said.

Photographer Andrew Meares has been documenting the eerie shift on the streets of Paris as locals grapple with death, terror, grief and anger in the wake of the attacks on Friday night.

Just a week ago this could so easily have been the scene of eager tourists bracing the cold on an early Sunday morning to beat the crowds at the Eiffel Tower.

Now Paris is under guard.
