FIFA World Cup: Quarter-finals Day 1, results, highlights

Belgium have done it! They've knocked out the tournament favourite in a victory for the ages! Belgium have reached only their second-ever World Cup semi-final, their first since 1986. This was such an exciting match. Belgium thoroughly deserved their victory. That was the first time Brazil have conceded two goals since March 2016.

Belgium went after Brazil from the start and you feel their oppoonents weren't expecting the approach. De Bruyne is such a sublime passer of the ball, he was able to thread some killer passes., while Hazard and Lukaku terrorised the Brazilian defenders with their constant running. 

In fairness, Brazil did have their chances, particularly in the first half. And they won't have budgeted for Thibaut Courtois to have had such a brilliant game between the sticks.

But Belgium weren't to be denied and will be looking forward to their semi-final against France. That should be another cracking match. The most successful World Cup team in history are out and history beckons for Belgium!

90 mins +4 - Miranda fould Hazard and the Belgian is pretty pumped about it. He knows it takes his team that little closer to the final whistle. But Brazil soon win possession and Douglas Costa comes in from the right. Neymar receives the nall and opens up his body to curl a shot past Courtois. But this has been the keeper's night and he tips it over the bar! A super save!

90 mins +1 - ... penalty, of course. Neymar competes for a Douglas Costa cross from the right. Meunier thinks about tugging his shirt but eventually settles for a tap on the shoulder. Neymar goes down. VAR has a look, but there's no spot-kick decision. Neymar shakes his head.

90 mins - Hazard breaks away, only for Fagner takes a yellow card to stop the counter-attack.

89 min - Marcelo crosses from the left, bur Firmino can’t connect with his head and Vermaelen clears.

88 min - But Alderweireld blocks his path. Neymar can only run it out of play for a goal kick. Can Belgium hold on?

87 min - Belgium replaces Lukaku - who has put in a tremendous shift - with the more defensive Tielemans.

85 min: Fernandinho booked for tripping Hazard from behind.

84 mins - Firmino bursts down the middle, then slips in Neymar down the left with an excellent pass. Neymar glides into the area, and pulls the ball back to Coutinho whi is arriving on the scene. It's a terrible hit and goes well wide of the goal. That was an excellent opportunity to square the square.

82 mins - Nacer Chadli goes down, exhausted. He takes his sweet time departing the field, and is replaced by Thomas Vermaelen. The Brazilians aren't impressed.
