Race-by-race preview and tips for Moruya on Sunday

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track.

Race 1

2. King Taurus has had two starts since joining the new stable and he has finished second in
each of them, the latest when an odds-on favourite. He’s drawn ideally here in gate two and Nick
Heywood takes the ride. 7. Broken Image wasn’t beaten far when running second at Albury at her
second start and she can be placed again. 3. Oh What A Night has been placed a couple of times and is far from the worst in this line-up. 5. Cammi was placed at this track back in May and could sneak into the minor money at best here.

How to play it: King Taurus WIN.

2. Better Sun was placed at Albury in each of his first two starts at Albury earlier in the year then managed to break through and score a victory at Corowa in July as favourite before being spelled. He’s drawn well in gate two here. 6. Miss Scoop was a Nowra winner on debut and was just behind the placings in both runs since, before a spell. 3. I Am Xtravagant won at Wagga in November last year and was spelled after running fifth at Gundagai. He resumes here from a long spell after a recent trial. 1. Missy No Nay was a winner here in April and has a further four placings to her name. She looks to have ability.

How to play it: Better Sun WIN.

Race 3

4. Merc is resuming from a spell here and has a good first-up record with two wins and three placings from seven attempts. He hasn’t raced since finishing fifth at Forbes in August but is set to sprint well fresh. 1. Kattegat is handy at best and should show up, while 6. Cani Cancan has won two of her last three starts. 7. Your Not The Boss looks the best of the rest.

Race 4

1. King Gutho hit the line well to win here two starts ago and ran home well again for a last-start second at Queanbeyan. This looks a nice race for him. 3. Mr Rock It ran well when second at Newcastle at his latest start. 2. Fine Vintage was an Albury winner before a last start Canterbury failure. 5. Nipotino has been contesting city races and will find this easier.

Race 5

5. Fudge ran second at Queanbeyan three starts ago and was back to her best when winning at the Sapphire Coast at her latest start. She’s drawn the inside gate here. 7. Trianon wasn’t beaten far at Nowra last weekend despite finishing seventh and he has strong claims in this. 3. Pretty Eyed was down the track at Canberra at her latest start but she is capable of improving here. 6. Crazy Atom has had three starts since joining the Joe Cleary stable and hasn’t been disgraced in any of them. He could bob up without surprising.

How to play it: Fudge WIN.

Race 6

4. Mega Fight struggles to win but has managed to figure in the placings in eight of his 16 starts. He comes into this on the back of a last start fourth at Kemble Grange and gets another chance to break through here. 10. Queen Of Drama led them up at Newcastle when finishing second at her latest start and a repeat would have her in the finish of this. 9. Iconic Miss was placed two starts ago at the Sapphire Coast then ran fifth at Newcastle. She can be placed again here. 11. Spurline has been placed in her latest two runs and could figure in the minor money again.

How to play it: Mega Fight WIN.

Race 7

1. Ken’ker fought on strongly to score a win at Goulburn two starts ago when accounting for Perfumist which has since gone on to win two in a row. Ken’ker then ran second at Nowra last weekend. He’s drawn wide here but is racing well. 9. Our Cosmic Belle hasn’t been too far away at her latest two starts and can figure in this if she’s at her best. 7. Golden Fairy won at Nowra two starts ago then ran fourth at Canberra last time out. She can make an impact again here. 5. Capicella wasn’t far away at Newcastle when last produced and has place claims.

Race 8

1. Capital Heart has only won the once from 20 starts, but has a further seven placings to his name and has shown his share of ability in his career. He has been taking on Highway grade of late and although rising in weight he will appreciate racing against easier company. 2. Airliner will also find this easier than the Highway events he’s been contesting either side of a spell and he should run well. 3. Galston Gorge was a winner at Queanbeyan three starts ago and then ran fourth at Wagga before a third at Gundagai. 7. Ludovica has been behind the placings in three runs back from a spell but can improve here.

How to play it: Capital Heart WIN.

Best Bets: Race 4 (1) King Gutho.

Race 8 (1) Capital Heart.

Best Value: Race 3 (4) Merc.
