The umpires decide that’s enough for one day with spitting rain and the light fading.
It’s been a difficult day for the Gabba ground staff as they have battled rain all day to try and get the field playable between enforced breaks.
The bit of play that we have had has been very positive for Australia, finishing their first innings with 445, with Alex Carey adding the final flourish with 70 runs.
Today Mitchell Starc has got two wickets, with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood getting one each with India looking very unsteady with the bat in Brisbane.
Thank you for your company today and I will be back to join you tomorrow, hopefully for a much drier day.
In the same vein, here is Travis Head with his offspin
After leading the charge with the bat, Travis Head is now stepping in for Australia as an offspinner.
India are not looking in a rush to make any runs and just look like they want to get through today so they can reset tomorrow.
India 4-51 (after 16 overs)
Nathan Lyon gets his first chance to bowl
Nathan Lyon is getting his first chance to bowl today and is likely motivated by the light readers with the quicks being deemed a bit too dangerous as the day goes ona.
Australia will be hoping that play can go on as late as 6.20pm local time or 7.20pm (AEDT) if possible.
India 4-49 (after 15 overs)

The players are back on the field and we’re almost ready
We are going to be off here in eight minutes with the players warming up back on the field as the ground staff make the final tweaks to the field, not it must be said for the first time today.
The Gabba stands are almost completely empty as the crowd not unreasonably have decided they’ve had enough and have gone home for the day.
Let’s hope the last bit of play we get is uninterrupted. It’s been one of those days.
There are 13.5 minimum overs remaining today.
The well-placed source is coming through, there are blue skies.
How are you getting through this rain delay if you are in the changing rooms?

Tim Southee ends his Test career for New Zealand
Thankfully there is still some cricket being played over the ditch, with the Black Caps taking on England.
Tim Southee took to the field in Hamilton chasing 100 sixes in his last ever innings, but was sadly out for two runs, ending a great career, with 98 sixes notched by the veteran.
