The Hollywood Hills-style Airbnb that out-earns WA’s premier

A one-of-a-kind Airbnb property nestled in the Perth Hills fetches $10,000 a week at the peak of summer, potentially earning its hosts more than $400,000 a year.

By comparison, WA Premier Roger Cook earns $377,000 a year.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home comes with a large, fully equipped kitchen, a pizza oven, a theatre entertainment system, deluxe master bedroom, 15 car parking spaces and an infinity pool with a cinematic 180-degree view of nature.

The Ocean View Parade property in Gooseberry Hill is set on nearly 7000 square metres and sold in February 2021 for $1.4 million to GAB Superannuation Fund.

It was now estimated to be worth more than $2 million, well above the $1 million price tag for the average house in Gooseberry Hill according to Domain’s latest House Price Report.

For those looking for something more affordable, a secluded tent in Mt Helena is set on a 100-acre alpaca farm in a valley that is in walking distance to Lake Leschenaultia.

Guests can enjoy the bush stay at a campground which has a hot shower and toilet with running water. A week will cost just over $2000 in the January school holidays.

For those chasing a tiny town with a population under 3000, York, Bremer Bay and York have appeared on a top 10 list of Australia’s top tiny towns.

The new guide by Airbnb also listed Kellerberrin, Shark Bay and Chapman Valley as towns offering a unique and charming experience to explore.

YouGov research showed nearly 80 per cent of Australians were interested in visiting a small town they’ve never been to before, but one in three assumed there was a lack of viable accommodation options.

A yesteryear two-bedroom stone cottage in York features a rose garden out the front or relax in the backyard on the lawn overlooking the alpaca paddock.

In the wine regions, Caves Manor offers some of the most luxurious accommodation Margaret River has to offer.

The property is looked after by a groundsman and backs into the Cape to Cape walk through Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.

It has been estimated there are about 12,000 short-stay accommodation properties operating in WA.

They are proving a money-spinner for hosts, with Perth ranked the most profitable Airbnb location in Australia, and Augusta-Margaret River ranked fifth.

An Airbnb spokeswoman said its unique blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty made Perth a magnet for travellers seeking sun-soaked adventures.

“Perth boasts the highest average occupancy rate (77 per cent) in the country with a daily rate averaging $223,” she said.

“Boasting an occupancy rate of 68 per cent and an average daily rate of $359, the Augusta Margaret River region has demonstrated its capacity to attract visitors again and again.”

The top foreign countries contributing to Australia’s Airbnb market included the UK, USA and New Zealand.
