Ipswich One Nation candidate quits, will run as an independent
By Toby Crockford
One Nation candidate Troy Aggett, who was standing for the seat of Ipswich, has quit the party and announced he will run as an independent.
Mr Aggett made the announcement overnight on his professional Facebook page, writing "the chains are off".
"I will be running as an independent. I would live (sic) your continued support. Now the chains are off," he wrote.
The description of his Facebook page was also updated after the announcement.
"I am running as an independent to bring the voice of the people to the table. Giving people the honest and loyal respect that they deserve."
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson said on Tuesday she accepted Mr Aggett's decision and was confident of finding a replacement.
According to the biography on Mr Aggett's Facebook page, he is a former member of the Australian Federal Police, a trained counter-terrorism specialist and former protection officer to former prime minister John Howard.
