Football West has launched an investigation after spectators from two junior soccer clubs became embroiled in an off-field brawl that left one person injured and children “shaken” and “traumatised”.
The altercation occurred during an Under 9s game between Floreat Athena and Stirling Lions Football Clubs at Britannia Oval in Mount Hawthorn on Sunday, July 28.

In a statement released by Floreat Athena Football Club’s board to parents, it revealed at least one person had sustained physical injuries in the incident which had been captured on video later published by ABC Radio Perth.
“Even more disturbing, are the children seen in the footage who are visibly shaken and traumatised - an image which has left us horrified and deeply concerned for their welfare,” the club statement read.
The club confirmed it was now taking statements from witnesses and had alerted its governing body Football West, which was in the process of conducting its own probe into the incident.
WAtoday understands WA Police have also been advised.
Those involved in the brawl have since been barred from attending future games until the club and Football West conclude their investigations.
The club’s board reiterated its zero-tolerance approach to violence and abuse and its expectation that all spectators adhere to its code of conduct.
It is understood to be seeking advice on how best to support the children and parents affected.
A club spokesperson confirmed the incident was unacceptable, but insisted it was isolated and not reflective of the club’s culture.
A spokesperson from Football West told WAtoday it condemned the unacceptable scenes witnessed.
“We are committed to safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of all children, officials and spectators, and ensuring they can enjoy participating in football in a safe and supportive environment, free from any harm,” the spokesperson said.
“Any parties, including coaches, parents and other spectators, found to have breached the Code of Conduct and/or Spectator Code of Behaviour will face sanctions including a possible ban from all Football West matches.
“The overwhelming majority of people who attend our games are a credit to the sport and will join us in condemning this unacceptable behaviour.”
Stirling Lions Football Club’s committee has been contacted for comment.
The incident occurred just hours after WA Police were called to Hamer Park in Mount Lawley amid a brawl involving spectators after a junior football game involving Mount Lawley Inglewood and High Wycombe Junior Football Clubs.
