Virginia Giuffre expected to provide welfare update, lawyer says

By Rebecca Peppiatt

The woman who accused Prince Andrew, Duke of York, of sexually assaulting her as a teenager was not required to attend an appearance in a Perth court this morning over allegations she breached a family violence restraining order.

Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims, who now lives in Western Australia, made headlines last week when she posted to social media that she had just days to live after a school bus crashed into her car.

Guiffre posted this image to her Instagram claiming she was suffering from kidney failure and had just days to live.

However, WA Police said the incident was a minor traffic crash which occurred near Lancelin on March 24, nearly a week before Giuffre’s Instagram post, and that no injuries were reported to police.

Giuffre said she’d had the “worst start to a new year” before going on to give details about the crash, stating that a school bus driver had driven into her car at 110km/h.

“No matter what your car is made of it might as well be a tin can,” she said.

“I’ve gone into kidney renal failure, they’ve given me four days to live, transferring me to a specialist hospital in urology.

“I’m ready to go, just not until I see my babies one last time, but you know what they say about wishes.”

Days later her family released a statement claiming publishing the post publicly was a mistake, and that the details were meant to be shared privately.

“Virginia was banged up and bruised and returned home. Virginia’s condition worsened, and she was admitted to the hospital,” the statement read.

Giuffre, 41, spent a week in a Perth hospital in a stable condition after making the March 30 post and was recently discharged.

She had a court listing in Joondalup Magistrates Court this morning after she was charged with breaching a violence restraining order in Ocean Reef on February 2.

She did not appear in person, her lawyer Karrie Louden instead telling Magistrate Andrew Maughan that she was seeking an adjournment to June 11.

“Why are negotiations taking so long?” Maughan asked, before telling Louden her client needed to enter a plea on the next occasion.

The details of what the restraining order was in relation to are unclear but outside of court, Louden said she expected her client to be releasing an update on her welfare soon.

“The best person to speak to about that is her publicist in America,” she said, adding that she was not in a position to talk about her legal matter.

“She wasn’t required to appear in court today,” she said. “She was only on a notice.”
