The Perth billionaire buying up a Mandurah canal-front street
Reclusive Perth billionaire Angela Bennett's purchase of a $1.675 million canal-front house in Wannanup has increased her property holdings on the one street to three blocks.
The iron ore heiress already owns two undeveloped land parcels, a combined 1385 square metres, she bought for $575,000 each nearly 20 years ago at Avocet Island Quay in the Eastport canals.
Ms Bennett's made the more recent purchase of a three-storey mansion, two blocks up from her existing assets, in late 2020 through real estate firm The Agency.
The house had been listed for sale for $1.87 million in 2018 but Ms Bennett managed to buy it for nearly $200,000 less after the property had been on the market for several years.
The previous owner had bought the land for $280,000 in 2001.
Oswald Homes built the luxury abode which features custom Versace double doors, Alabaster chandeliers, a wrought iron staircase, and marble portico.
The house also has four king-size bedrooms, four bathrooms, a guest suite, a floating jetty, and an outdoor spa.
Modern mansions are continuing to spring up around the Eastport canals which neighbour the Port Bouvard Marina that opened in 1999.
Ms Bennett has a diverse residential property portfolio in the greater Perth area that includes a $7.9 million penthouse apartment in West Perth, a $3.1 million house in Dalkeith, and apartments in North Coogee and Peppermint Grove.
The billionaire famously set an Australian record for a house sale in 2009 when she off-loaded her sprawling Mosman Park mansion for $57.5 million after originally listing it for $70 million.
The Mosman Park home was sold to mining magnate Chris Ellison who lodged plans to destroy the house and build a new one in December 2019.
