Teens allegedly caught speeding 71km/h over limit after car crash
By Rhiannon Tuffield
Two teens were allegedly caught speeding at 71 kilometres over the limit in Perth on the same night another driver allegedly flipped his car, injuring his passenger.
Police said a 23-year-old male driver lost control of his car on Hodges Drive, before he crashed into a speed sign about 11.40pm on Friday.
The white Volvo sedan ended up on its roof and a 27-year-old male passenger was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital after sustaining injuries.
The driver was uninjured.
Twenty minutes earlier on the same road police said they caught the teens, aged 17 and 18, after they were detected travelling 141 kilometres in a 70 kilometre zone on Hodges Drive at Ocean Reef.
Police said the teens were speeding side-by-side on the major arterial road from Ocean Reef Boat Harbour.
Officer in Charge of Hillarys Police Station Acting Inspector Adrian Fuller said hoon driving had no place in the community.
“We will not tolerate these unsafe driving behaviours, or people who want turn public roads into their own personal drag strip or racetrack,” Fuller said.
“This nature of offending puts other road users, as well as the offending drivers themselves, at serious risk of injury or death.
“I would encourage anyone who witnesses hoon driving or dangerous driving in the community to report that activity to police.”
