Driver charged after Perth crash leaves three dead, two fighting for life

Three men have died and two are fighting for life after a vehicle crashed into an unoccupied home in Carlisle, in Perth’s east, about 5am on Saturday.

Three of the men, one aged 34 and two aged 22, were passengers in the vehicle and died at the scene.

Two other male passengers, aged 19 and 23, were taken to hospital with serious injuries, WA Police said.

Police said the 22-year-old driver, who received minor injuries, was charged late on Saturday with three counts of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and remanded to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.

“There’s three families receiving devastating news today, traumatic, life-changing news,” WA Police Commissioner Mike Bell said.

“Another two families hoping their children pull through and of course, there’s a driver who’s life is going to change forever.”

A neighbour’s doorbell camera captured the sound of impact.

“Just horrific,” first responder Dallas said.

“There were noises coming from the car so I knew there were people who weren’t good.”

Police allege the driver failed a breath test, and have said he was likely speeding and some of his mates weren’t wearing a seatbelt.

“The driver was trying to... he actually pulled the windscreen off the car and was trying to get in and help his friends that way,” Dallas said.
