Police have seized a significant amount of methamphetamine that they allege was on its way to be sold in Carnarvon and Exmouth.
They said a 49-year-old Carnarvon man was the passenger in a Toyota LandCruiser Prado travelling north on Brand Highway was stopped in Tarcoola Beach at about 1.20pm on Tuesday.
They allege a search of the man revealed he was carrying just over 53 grams of methylamphetamine that was destined for sale or distribution in the two holiday towns.
A WA Police spokesperson said the amount of drugs seized would have had a significant impact
on small communities.
“Removing these drugs from the streets is a significant outcome for the Carnarvon and Exmouth
communities, where it is believed these drugs were destined for,” they said.
“Methylamphetamine destroys lives and has a devastating impact on the community, and those
impacts are felt even more in smaller regional communities where even only a small amount of illicit drugs can drive local crime, family violence and anti-social behaviour.
“WA Police Force remains committed to identifying and charging people involved in the sale and
distribution of illicit drugs, and who prey on vulnerable members of the community for their own
financial gain.”
The man was later charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply it to another.
He was refused bail and will appear in the Perth Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
