The victims were all women aged 71, 84 and 93.

He was arrested on Tuesday at an address in Nollamara and charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault and one count of aggravated sexual penetration without consent.

Lutula Wema appeared at Armadale Magistrates Court on Wednesday and confirmed he understood English and the charges that have been laid before him.

“It will be alleged in July 2022, the man who was working in an aged facility in the northern suburbs, indecently assaulted an 84-year-old female resident,” police said.

“It will be further alleged in January 2023, the man who was working in an aged care facility in eastern suburbs, sexually assaulted a 71-year-old female resident and indecently assaulted a 93-year-old female resident.”

Lutula Wema was told on Wednesday by the magistrate the charges against him were serious and that he should get legal advice.

On the prosecutor’s submission, he was refused bail by the magistrate.

“Given that the charges are serious charges, I am of the view that bail ought not to be granted to ensure there is no further offending by you,” she said.

She added that there may be further charges laid.

Lutula Wema will reappear in court on February 24.
