An elderly woman has been found dead after a house was destroyed by fire in Melbourne's west.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire in Brooklyn that Metropolitan Fire Brigade crews were called to about 1.40am on Thursday after smoke and flames were seen coming from a house.

It took an hour for firefighters to bring the fire engulfing the single-storey home on Eames Avenue under control.
Ten trucks and a helicopter were used to help extinguish the flames.
A Victoria police spokesman said an 81-year-old woman's body was found in the home.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and Victoria Police will now prepare a report for the coroner.
