Best jeans

We might not be quite ready to copy Timothée Chalamet’s butter leather pants from the Oscars, but his traditional jeans from the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown are ripe for the picking. Chalamet favours out-there styles, but a classic cut will always deliver a greater return on cost-per-wear. Levi’s “Blue Tab” men’s marker loose jeans, $350.
Best tie

The tie has become an accessory rather than an essential in the male working wardrobe but, when it comes to evening attire, Elvis actor Austin Butler makes a strong case for the silk strip. Avoid personality prints and look for classic Wall Street stripes or muted polka dots for a new approach to old-money dressing. YSL striped tie, $405.
Best jewellery

Men’s jewellery is beginning to rival the women’s dazzlers on the red carpet. It started with extravagant brooches on lapels a few seasons back but, at the Golden Globes this year, actor Andrew Garfield’s unbuttoned shirt revealed a gold-and-green necklace. Statement necklaces bring back the sexy swagger of the ’70s without having to squeeze into a white Saturday Night Fever suit.
Nialaya gold necklace with malachite pendant, $269.
Best knitwear

In the TV series Succession, Jeremy Strong’s Kendall Roy embodied stealth-wealth style but, on the red carpet, the actor prefers Bohemian eclecticism. Cherry-picking from Strong’s Golden Globes look – check out the statement bucket hat – invest in a roll-neck that can perform beneath a suit jacket or with jeans. Suit Supply off-white turtleneck, $269.
Best shirt

Hot on the tottering heels of the women’s “going-out top” making a return, actor Colman Domingo championed the men’s “going-out shirt” at the BAFTAs. Domingo nominated an eye-searing Versace print to stand out against the backdrop of black basics, but look for anything loud to be proud in. Camilla oversized “Ready for my welcome drink” shirt, $595.
