Three Australian soldiers charged with drug trafficking offences

By Angus Dalton

Three Australian Defence Force soldiers who allegedly took part in a drug trafficking syndicate have been arrested in Queensland.

No drugs were seized during their arrests, but investigators intercepted cash sent through the mail that the three men allegedly intended to use to buy and resell cocaine at a profit.

Officers from Townsville’s Major and Organised Crime Squad arrested the men, all aged 23, in Townsville overnight on Friday.

Police have charged one of the men with 22 offences, including trafficking dangerous drugs, stealing, receiving tainted property and 14 counts of supplying dangerous drugs.

The other two men were charged with seven charges involving drug trafficking and supply.

The trio were released on bail and will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court in February next year as the investigation continues.

The Australian Defence Force was approached for comment.
