Section of Star Brisbane’s Sky Deck closed after crack appears in panel

Part of the Sky Deck at The Star Brisbane casino has been closed off after reports of a crack in one of the glass panels.

On Saturday afternoon, Reddit user mathieu_au posted on the r/brisbane page that the Sky Deck’s glass walkway had been “shut by security as a huge crack has appeared”.

The post included a photo of the cracked panel on the Queen’s Wharf lookout, with security cordoning off the area.

A staff member confirmed there was minor damage to one of the panels and the section had been closed off to be repaired, however a spokeswoman for The Star said the rest of the Sky Deck remained open.

“The small, impacted section remains isolated until replaced,” she said.

“An independent assessor has determined the structural integrity of the Sky Deck viewing platform is unaffected.”

After experiencing construction delays, the casino’s owner Star Entertainment Group has since also been plagued by financial and legal troubles – leading to a rescue deal in April from US gambling, betting, and interactive entertainment company Bally’s.
