Scooter-riding 12-year-old girl one of two people killed in crashes
A 12-year-old girl and a man in his 60s have died in two crashes west of Brisbane.
The girl was riding an e-scooter southbound on Vaux Street in Laidley, west of Ipswich, when she was hit by a car about 3pm on Saturday.
Police believe she was travelling in the same direction as the vehicle – a grey Holden Barina – when she fell off the scooter into the car’s path.
She was declared dead at the scene. Police said the car’s two occupants were not physically hurt.
Earlier, a man in his 60s riding a motorbike in Gatton, east of Toowoomba, collided with a Toyota Hilux ute.
The rider was declared dead at the scene, and police said the Hilux driver – a 17-year-old boy – suffered no physical wounds.
Officers said the car was travelling west on Eastern Drive just before midday when the black BMW motorbike struck it from behind.
Investigations have been launched into both crashes, with police urging anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage, or who might have witnessed either crash, to come forward.
The investigations were continuing on Sunday morning.
