Police officer stabbed with ‘large pair of scissors’ moved to Brisbane hospital
A police officer responding to a domestic violence call in Roma has been transferred to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital after being stabbed with “a large pair of scissors”.
The officer, who was part of a team called to a DV incident at 7am on Saturday, was reportedly assaulted while arresting a 35-year-old man.
Police said he was taken to Roma Hospital for initial treatment then flown to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.
Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Andrew Massingham told 4BC the 35-year-old man tried to flee when police arrived.
“That person was confronted, an arrest was effected, and during the course of that arrest, the officer has been stabbed, or he suffered a puncture wound to his shoulder and back area, from what we believe was a large pair of scissors,” Massingham said.
“There are some concerns around damage to his lungs as he was experiencing difficulty breathing prior to the ambulance arriving.”
The assailant was arrested at the scene and charged with one count each of acts intended to prevent lawful detention, escaping lawful custody, and serious assault of a police officer.
He was taken to Roma Watchhouse and was expected to make an appearance at Roma Magistrates Court on Monday.
