New CCTV from Crystal Beale’s last night alive

By Rosanna Ryan and Cloe Read

Two potential witnesses to Crystal Beale’s last night alive have been captured by CCTV walking along Ryan Street in West End.

Police have released the footage as they continue their investigations into the suspected murder, a month and a half since the body of the 49-year-old Sunshine Coast mother was found in the Brisbane River at Yeronga.

They said they were yet to identify the pair, but they were not believed to be involved in Beale’s death.

Police also said they were looking for people riding scooters and bicycles or driving vehicles along Hill End Terrace, West End, towards Forbes Street.

They also hoped to speak to people who were fishing at the jetty near Orleigh Park.

“They are in no way in trouble,” Detective Acting Inspector Rod Watts said.

“We believe they may have vital information that could assist us in seeking answers for Crystal’s family.”

On the night she died, Beale had been at a dinner with her former partner and his son at Sunnybank, in Brisbane’s south, before she was dropped off in West End, where she had been visiting family.

Later, her body was found by a rower near the Brisbane Corso at Yeronga.

Her body was found with “no obvious injuries”, leading officers to initially rule her death as non-suspicious.

But in mid-March, police made a public appeal for information.

Anyone who might have information about Beale or who was in the Orleigh Park area in West End between 9.30pm on February 21 and 1am the following morning has been urged to come forward.

Video distributed by police in March shows her wearing a long, white dress and carrying a brown leather satchel.

Walking behind two men, she paused to put on one of her shoes as she left the Sunnybank Hotel.

On Friday, police renewed their appeal for information.

“Investigations of this nature are complex, and every detail matters,” Watts said.

“The investigative team continues to work around the clock on this matter and appeal to the community to assist us with any information they may have, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant they think it is.”
