Man ambushed by cops at Queensland post office

By Jocelyn Garcia

An 18-year-old Peregian Beach man has been charged after attempting to collect a package containing dangerous drugs from a Sunshine Coast post office box.

Detectives allegedly uncovered a quantity of cash, vacuum sealer, clip seal bags, MDMA test kit and other items associated with the packaging and sale of dangerous drugs after raiding the man's home on Tuesday.

The man was charged with multiple charges, including two counts of importing or exporting border-controlled drugs and drug trafficking.

He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The arrest was part of a Sunshine Coast investigation of alleged importation of dangerous drugs via the postal system, which was launched three months ago.

An investigation was sparked following an international mail consignment destined for a Coolum Beach PO box was intercepted in New South Wales on September 10.

The package allegedly contained dangerous drugs hidden within a computer game box.

Search warrants were executed at the post office between December 11 and 17 and two packages sent from the Netherlands and Germany were seized.

A further examination of the packages revealed a heat-sealed bag allegedly containing a clip seal bag of a yellow crystal substance, believed to be MDMA.

Investigations led Sunshine Coast detectives to a Peregian Beach address on December 13, where an 18-year-old man and 47-year-old woman were arrested after a quantity of dangerous drugs was allegedly found at the home.

The man was charged with two counts of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing utensils.

He will appear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court in February.

The woman was also charged with possessing dangerous drugs and utensils and was given a drug diversion.
