A youth group leader from Beresfield will face Newcastle Local Court on Saturday, charged with the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's child abuse squad began investigating the 22-year-old man last month, after the received a report that a 15-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by someone she knew.
On Friday morning, the 22-year-old was arrested at his home in Beresfield, near Newcastle.
Investigators also seized two cars for "forensic examination".
The man was taken to Maitland police station and charged with seven counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child under 16 and two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under 16.
Police will allege that the man "sexually touched and sexually assaulted" the girl on several occasions between April and May 2019.
He has been stood down from his role as a youth group leader and will face court on Saturday.
