Body of missing fisherman found in Sydney river
By Anthony Segaert
A 68-year-old fisherman who went missing after jumping into the Nepean River, in Sydney’s west, has been found dead.
NSW Police were called to Nortons Basin at Mulgoa, about 20km south of Penrith, at 11 am on Saturday and were told the man was last seen trying to retrieve his fishing rod.
A multi-agency search was launched before the man’s body was found at about 10.40 am on Sunday.
The man was fishing with his partner when he dropped his rod and jumped into the water to retrieve it. His partner raised the alarm when the man did not resurface, police said.
Officers from NSW Police, the SES, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance were searching the water, while a PolAir helicopter was also called to the area. The basin is not directly accessible by vehicle.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

An earlier version of this story said the man told his partner he was going for a swim. This was based on incorrect information from NSW Police.
