By Sarah Keoghan and Laura Chung
A man and woman who allegedly abducted a two-year-old boy on the NSW North Coast on Friday afternoon have been charged after the child was found more than 300 kilometres away.
NSW Police had issued an urgent amber alert on Friday evening after the child was taken outside an office on Little Street in Coffs Harbour about 2pm.
The child’s grandmother was allegedly assaulted during the incident. Police said multiple witnesses phoned police and attempted to intervene; however the child was taken.
In a statement just after midnight, police said the child had been found about 11.30pm in Tenterfield – about 300 km from where the initial incident took place – and that a 35-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were in police custody.
The man was charged on Saturday morning with taking and detaining a child with the intent of removing the child from parental control, reckless grievous bodily harm and breaching bail.

The pair, who are both from Tenterfield, were refused police bail and are due to appear in Tamworth Local Court on Saturday.
The child’s grandmother was treated for a broken arm.
