Man dies after two boats collide on Sydney Harbour

A man died during a yacht race on Sydney Harbour on Friday night, police said in a statement.
Emergency services were called to New Beach Road in Darling Point around 6.30pm after reports that two boats had collided.
Police say a man, believed to be in his 50s, had sustained a severe chest injury and died at the scene. He was yet to be formally identified.
Mandatory testing was conducted on both skippers and both boats were seized for mechanical inspection.
The boats were berthed at Darling Point’s Cruising Yacht Club of Australia for police interviews, the club said in a statement on Saturday.
“There was a tragic accident on Sydney Harbour in which a crew member was killed when two boats participating in races unconnected with the CYCA collided,” the club said.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased crew member. Our thoughts are also with the crews and all those affected by this devastating event.”
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
