A 54-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl and stabbing a man who came to her rescue in Sydney's south has been arrested following his release from hospital.
The man was taken into custody on Thursday, November 15, after police found him in a Kogarah toilet with the girl. He has since been receiving medical treatment under the supervision of correctional officers.
After being deemed fit by doctors, he was taken to Maroubra police station about 4pm on Sunday.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said he would do all he could to make sure the suspect "dies in jail", while publicly naming the man while standing alongside Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Police Minister Troy Grant on Sunday.
"My number one priority is making sure that [the suspect] dies in jail," Mr Fuller said.
"I will make sure that the investigation, that all of the evidence that goes before the court, sees him never back on our streets again."
NSW Police are expecting to lay a number of charges related to the incident.
