A six-year-old girl is in a critical condition after she was struck by a van in south-west Sydney.
Emergency services were called to The Horsley Drive at Smithfield following reports a child had been hit about 3.40pm on Tuesday.
Careflight said the girl was unconscious from the time she was struck.
A specialist doctor and critical care paramedic intubated the girl and placed her in an induced coma.
The girl was taken by road to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with head injuries.
She was in a critical but stable condition on Wednesday afternoon.
The male driver, 55, was taken to Fairfield Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
