Police have appealed to the public for more information on a suspected hit-and-run in Epping.

Emergency services were called as officers from Ryde Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics rendered assistance until a medical team was brought to the scene by the Toll helicopter, which landed on a tennis court in Grant Close.

The 78-year-old man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering severe head and internal injuries and is in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector Jason Hogan from the Crash Investigation Unit said it appeared the 78-year-old was crossing the road when he was hit.

“From the footage it appears that the driver knew he was involved in the collision and we would urge the driver to come forward,” he said.

“Our enquiries will focus on CCTV and a public appeal for any witnesses.”

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are now conducting the investigation and have information a light blue sedan was driving along Boronia Avenue about the time the man was believed to have been struck.

Police hope the driver of the vehicle may be able to assist investigators with information about the incident.

Officers have appealed for the driver of that vehicle, or anyone who saw the vehicle or has dashcam vision which may be relevant, to come forward to the CIU or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
