Cocaine stamped with ‘Scarface’ logo seized in Sydney’s inner west

By Nigel Gladstone

A 22-year-old man was allegedly busted taking a bag with a one-kilogram block of cocaine stamped with a “Scarface” logo from the boot of a car in Dulwich Hill on Friday. He allegedly dropped the drugs and tried to flee from detectives as they approached him about lunchtime.

Police from the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad were on The Parade at Dulwich Hill just before 1pm yesterday following their investigations into drug supply under a strike force codenamed Mactier.

A search warrant was executed at a property on Alexandra Street in Drummoyne about 5pm where police allege a further 14 kilograms of cocaine was found in the garage taking the estimated potential street value of the drugs to $22.5 million.

Police also seized three cars – including an Audi RS3, and two Nissan Silvias – from the property.

The 22-year-old man, from Drummoyne, was arrested and charged with two counts of supplying a large commercial quantity of prohibited drugs.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday and was again refused bail before being remanded in custody to appear in Burwood Local Court on April 3.

Organised Crime Squad commander, Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, said yesterday’s arrest was the culmination of investigations that aim to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs in the city.

“This arrest and seizure means a significant quantity of an illegal drug is now off Sydney’s streets,” Faux said.

“The arrest demonstrates the successful and effective combination of state-of-the-art technology as well as dogged, feet-on-the-ground investigative work by my team.

“It also serves as a warning to those seeking to traffic illicit drugs in the community: the NSW Police is committed to identifying and arresting those involved in illegal activities and putting them before the court.”

Strike Force Mactier investigations continue.
