Bondi Rescue star charged with domestic violence offences

By Clare Sibthorpe

Lifeguard and star of reality series Bondi Rescue Andrew Reid is facing domestic violence charges over a series of alleged assaults in northern Sydney.

The 45-year-old, known as “Reidy” on the hit show, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of common assault (DV) which allegedly occurred in November 2022 and January this year at Chatswood.

Bondi Rescue star Andrew Reid has been charged with domestic violence.

He also faces one charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), dated March 24 at Chatswood. A fourth domestic violence charge was dismissed.

All allegations relate to the same woman, who is listed as a protected person in an apprehended domestic violence order against Reid.

Reid, who has featured on Bondi Rescue since 2006, made headlines in April when he rushed to help injured people following the Bondi Junction attack in which six people died.

He was shopping in Myer for a new bed when staff said there was a stabbing, and convinced a security guard to let him slip underneath the door after he saw a woman bleeding. Reid created a makeshift tourniquet after grabbing clothes from a nearby Cotton On rack.

“There was so much blood around, and I was like ‘I’ve got to get down there and help’,” he said at the time.

Reid has faced part of a hearing to fight the allegations against him.

His high-profile barrister Margaret Cunneen SC told the Herald the charges would be “vigorously defended”.

“There are three very disparate allegations with a long time in between all, of which on the defence case, could be accounted for by an accident,” she said.

“There is no hitting or punching alleged. His good character will be squarely raised in the question of proof in these allegations”.

The hearing will continue at Hornsby Local Court on March 25 next year.
