Australian pop star Guy Sebastian has stepped down from his role on reality TV show The Voice to focus on his music career.
Sebastian, who has been a coach on the popular show for six years, announced to his Instagram followers on Wednesday afternoon that he was leaving the “best gig ever”.
“I have made the decision to take a break from the best red chair on the planet,” he said in a post.
“It’s been six amazing years as a coach and it’s honestly been the best gig ever! I have nothing but good things to say about the show itself, and sharing the panel with such amazing coaches has been a pleasure.”
Sebastian, who shot to fame after winning the first season of Australian Idol in 2003, said he was planning performances in Australia and abroad to showcase an upcoming album, which he said had been four years in the making.
Sebastian praised the program for its positivity and support of Australian artists and vowed to return to the show.
“Whoever has the audacity to take my chair, don’t get too comfortable … I will wrestle for it back with zero dignity when I’m ready to return,” he wrote.
The Seven Network’s chief content officer, Brook Hall, said Sebastian had been a “powerhouse coach” on The Voice.
“His mentorship and command of artistry has been inspirational to our Voice artists and viewers alike, as well as the production team and all at Seven,” she said in a statement.
“We thank Guy for his unwavering passion and positive energy on set, and wish him well for next year, the release of his new album and his live shows.”
Hall said the program’s coaching lineup for the 2025 season would be revealed in the coming months.
Reuben de Melo was crowned the winner of the 2024 season on Sunday night.
