Good Weekend letters to the editor: November 11

This story is part of the November 18 edition of Good Weekend.See all 9 stories.

52 Weekends Away

Flicking through your 52 Weekends Away issue was a fun and dreamy exercise [November 11]. My favourites are all the locations that connect seamlessly with nature. They somehow feel more relaxing and peaceful, particularly the gorgeous tiny homes like Serenity Abode in Victoria. We could all do with a restorative weekend to reconnect with the natural world. It’s a balm for the soul. Thank you for the ideas.

I thoroughly enjoyed dipping in and out of your 52 Weekends Away issue. What was impressive was the range of city and rural options offered, from comfortable and accessible to high-end luxury. I was pleased to see pet-friendly accommodation featured. Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, yet we are still so far behind the US, the UK and Europe in offering pet-friendly accommodation, especially as the pet-friendly luxury sector is booming overseas, if marketing reports and Condé Nast Traveller are to be believed.

My favourite places in 52 Weekends Away? The back-to-nature places in Tasmania like the Cedar Cottage in Meander and the Hunter Huon Valley cabins and the Gleneagle, with its eye-catching geodesic domes perched in the forest canopy. The only problem if you live in NSW, South Australia, or anywhere else on mainland Australia besides Melbourne? You can’t get really get there and stay two nights within the space of a single weekend, especially if you live outside the capital cities. Oh well, these are on my bucket list for maybe a longer stay. Thanks, too, for promoting Australian tourism and businesses within Australia.

Kitchen Sink Drama

Where is Paul Connolly? He never fails to enhance the weekend. I hope he is just on holidays, because he really starts the weekend so well.

‘Shouting over each other’: Ernie Dingo’s frustration at politics

Nice interview. Sadly “if you don’t know, vote no” was the lazy way out, which is the way of the world at the moment. It’s not hard to find out information these days. How many people have ever read the constitution? Beam me up Scotty

Ernie is still so natural, love to see more of him on TV. Suzee6

That’s a really nice one, Benjamin. Certainly Ernie is a true Indigenous Australian success story, blessings to you both. Secular

Good old Ernie. “If you don’t know, vote no” – another cringeworthy moment in our history. And relevant to any debate. Don’t know, then find out. Can be confronting but the world is a better place when truth is spoken. Boudica
