Boy, 11, bitten by shark off Exmouth in Western Australia

An 11-year-old boy was bitten by a shark while snorkelling in waters off the Cape Range National Park in Exmouth, authorities said.

He was taken to shore by a nearby boat where onlookers administered first aid until paramedics arrived.

ABC News reported the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) was informed of the incident at about 3pm on Saturday.

It said a snorkeller received injuries after being bitten by an unknown species of shark. Initial reports were that the boy’s injuries were non-life threatening.

He was taken to Exmouth Hospital and then flown to Perth Children’s Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service on Saturday night, local media reported.
