Cyclone Alfred: All your emergency contacts in one place

Cyclone Alfred is expected to make landfall between the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast in Queensland on Saturday morning. Residents of South East Queensland and northern NSW have been warned they will bear the brunt of the predicted destructive winds, heavy rainfall and dangerous surf.

No one can predict what will happen when Alfred hits these heavily populated regions. Below are emergency contacts you may need. We will update them as conditions change.

Bureau of Meteorology Cyclone Alfred update: This page here is regularly updated and will tell you the speed of Alfred and when it is most likely to hit land, if conditions have changed, and any weather hazards you may face.

NSW: You can find essential information and support including how to download the Hazards Near Me app, where to find evacuation centres, weather warnings and road closures here.

Queensland: For emergency information, weather updates and help numbers, plus how to find an evacuation centre near you, and a local council disaster dashboard (evacuation centres, local road closures, power outages etc) go here. Queensland evacuation centres will be announced by local councils in the disaster dashboard.

Local radio

In the case of a power outage, local radio will keep you up to date. If you have a battery-operated radio, you can tune into these stations.

Primarily of assistance after a flood or storm event, this portal here offers information on financial assistance, health services and mental health support. It will help you locate urgent care clinics and give advice about telehealth appointments.

Red Cross: For those who become separated from their family and friends, the Red Cross has started a register to help reunite loved ones during a disaster. Go here for more information.

Communify Queensland: This volunteer-led community centre has a disaster support directory that has information on homeless shelters, transport updates and emergency care. You can find it here.
