Free return flights and major discounts: Airlines’ Black Friday, Cyber Monday sales

By Katherine Scott

Major airlines are embracing the US phenomenon of Black Friday and Cyber Monday with discounts spanning many popular routes from Australia.

While some carriers jumped on the trend early last week, with member early-access sale fares, the sale period officially began on Friday.

Budget carrier Jetstar has backed up last week’s “Return for Free” Black Friday sale with another major sale for 48 hours from Monday morning, offering network-wide Cyber Monday discounts for international and domestic routes. Among the best deals are one-way Sydney to Ballina (Byron Bay) fares from $35, and one-way Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) from $189.

Asian budget airlines continue to lead the way with significant discounts on economy fares, including Scoot from Melbourne to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, from $269 one-way, and AirAsia from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur from $339 one-way.

Singaporean low-cost airline Scoot are leading the bargains with flights from Australia to Vietnam from $269 one-way.
